Frequently Asked Questions

What format does this tool use?

The tool generates a standard block-format business letter: sender details at the top-left, a date, recipient block, optional subject line, formal salutation, body text, complimentary close, and signature. Block format is the most widely accepted layout for professional correspondence.

Can I use the formatted letter in Word or Google Docs?

Yes. Use the Copy button to copy the plain-text letter to your clipboard, then paste it into Word, Google Docs, or any other editor. You can then apply your preferred font, margins, and spacing.

What salutation should I use?

For formal letters, "Dear" is universally appropriate and the tool defaults to it. If you know the recipient's name, use "Dear Mr./Ms. [Last Name]:". If you do not know the recipient, "Dear Hiring Manager:" or "To Whom It May Concern:" are common alternatives.

What are common letter closing phrases?

"Sincerely" and "Best regards" are the most common formal closings. "Yours faithfully" is traditional in British formal letters when you don't know the recipient's name. "Kind regards" and "Warm regards" are appropriate for semi-formal correspondence.
